National Security Needs an Operations Man of Integrity Like DCOP Peter Ndekugri (Rtd)

Raymond Ablorh believes DCOP Peter Ndekugri (Rtd) is the perfect choice for National Security Director under H.E. John Mahama, citing his unmatched experience, discipline, and integrity. Here’s why.

By Raymond Ablorh

H.E. John Dramani Mahama’s National Security Director should be a dynamic operations expert with both local and international experience, a man of integrity capable of securing the state.

If DCOP Peter Ndekugri (Rtd) is willing, he is the best candidate for the job.

DCOP Ndekugri (Rtd) boasts an exceptional record as the only police officer to have served as Special Operations Assistant to four different Inspectors General of Police (IGPs) in Ghana. He has worked with IGPs Paul Quaye, Alhassan, Kudalor, and Asante-Appeatu. No other officer in Ghana’s history has accumulated such rich professional security experience.

The IGPs who worked with him have consistently praised him for his discipline and integrity. When criminals rioted in the Upper West Region in 2017, it was DCOP Ndekugri whom the then Interior Minister and the Police Service called upon to restore order. He did so successfully, earning the respect of traditional leaders, businesspeople, and communities. Today, to the people of Upper West, DCOP Ndekugri symbolizes discipline; to criminals, his name is synonymous with terror.

On the international stage, he served in Kosovo and Sudan. While working with the United Nations as the Police Coordinator in Sudan, Nigerian Police Commissioner Peter Demaale wrote to New York, urging that Ndekugri not be returned to Ghana. This letter attests to his outstanding professional integrity and competence at the international level.

A citizen of such patriotism, who has consistently served his country with integrity, deserves the opportunity to serve in the most important security office to help protect the nation.

Of course, DCOP Ndekugri cannot be forced to take up the position. I sincerely hope that he is in good health and willing to serve under H.E. John Dramani Mahama in this capacity.

Even if he chooses not to serve, this extraordinary operations man deserves a national award for his unparalleled contributions to the country. I urge H.E. John Dramani Mahama to seriously consider DCOP Peter Ndekugri (Rtd) for the position of National Security Director.
