The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Limited has announced a revenue mobilisation exercise, set to run from Wednesday, January 15 to Friday, January 31, 2025, across all its operational areas. Dubbed “Operation Keep the Lights On”, the initiative targets all categories of customers with outstanding arrears and will also involve inspections of prepaid meters to ensure their integrity.
Objectives and Enforcement Measures
In a statement issued on January 13, ECG reminded customers that self-reconnection after disconnection is a criminal offence and will result in legal consequences. The exercise aims to:
- Recover outstanding debts from customers.
- Ensure compliance with payment regulations.
- Inspect prepaid meters to detect tampering or other irregularities.
The company has called on customers to cooperate fully with its staff during the exercise.
Operational Adjustments
To ensure the success of the initiative, ECG’s regional and district offices will operate with reduced staffing levels, as senior management and other staff will actively participate in the exercise. However, ECG assured the public that essential customer services will continue without interruption.
Legal Framework and Public Appeal
The ECG cited the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s LI (2413), which grants the company full access to all installations. The public and customers are therefore urged to comply with ECG staff during the mobilisation exercise.
This revenue drive is part of ECG’s broader efforts to improve operational efficiency and ensure uninterrupted power supply to its customers.
