Kwame A Plus Advocates for Independent Caucus Formation in Parliament

Kwame A Plus advocates for a third force in Ghana’s Parliament by forming an Independent Caucus through strategic election of independent MPs by 2028.

Accra, Ghana — Political activist and social commentator Kwame A Plus has called for a strategic shift toward electing independent candidates to Ghana’s Parliament to create a viable third force in the nation’s political landscape. In a post on his Facebook page, A Plus highlighted recent adjustments to Parliament’s Standing Orders, which now allow a caucus to be formed by as few as seven Members of Parliament (MPs) sharing a common interest or affiliation.

This amendment reduces the threshold for caucus formation, paving the way for smaller groups, including independent MPs, to organize and represent their collective interests effectively within Parliament. A Plus described the change as an opportunity to foster inclusivity and amplify diverse voices in the legislative process.

A Vision for 2028

A Plus expressed optimism about the possibility of securing more than ten independent candidates in Parliament by 2028. He emphasized that such representation would allow the formation of an Independent Caucus, complete with a leadership structure, including a Leader and Chief Whip, to advocate for progressive reforms.

“This is the foundation for creating a strong third force in Ghana’s political landscape,” he stated, positioning the initiative as a practical alternative to the costly and often unpredictable pursuit of party delegates.

A Practical Approach

Urging young, courageous Ghanaians to focus their efforts on becoming independent candidates, A Plus criticized the futility of investing in party primaries, where delegates may not necessarily align with candidates’ aspirations. He cautioned against wasteful spending on delegates, stating, “They’ll take your money, vote against you, and celebrate their gains.”

Instead, A Plus proposed forming what he termed a #BusyTeam—a dedicated constituency-level team to mobilize grassroots support. He assured aspiring candidates of his guidance to navigate the electoral process successfully as independents.

The Blueprint for Change

A Plus affirmed that the resources and strategy for success as independent candidates are within reach. He expressed confidence in the potential of this approach to disrupt the traditional two-party dominance in Ghana, offering citizens a fresh and independent alternative in governance.

As Ghana prepares for the next parliamentary elections, A Plus’s call has the potential to inspire a new wave of political engagement, particularly among those disenchanted with the current party structures. Whether this initiative gains momentum remains to be seen, but it reflects a growing desire for change in Ghana’s political landscape.
