In preparation for his assumption of office on January 7, 2025, President-Elect John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of an Interim National Security Coordinating Team to oversee national security matters until substantive appointments are made.
The six-member team, led by former Minister for the Interior Prosper Douglas Bani, will begin their mandate immediately upon the inauguration of the new administration.
Members of the Interim Team
The team comprises distinguished individuals with extensive experience in security, governance, and public service. They include:
- Lt. General Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd) – Former Chief of Defence Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces.
- Kofi Totobi Quakyi – Former Minister for National Security with a deep understanding of intelligence and strategic security.
- Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq. – A former National Security Coordinator and expert in counter-terrorism.
- Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu – A seasoned military leader with a wealth of operational experience.
- COP Nathaniel Kofi Boakye (Rtd) – Retired Commissioner of Police with an impeccable track record in law enforcement.
Mandate of the Interim Team
The team is tasked with ensuring:
- Smooth Transition: Coordinating national security operations during the transition period.
- Continuity of Security Services: Maintaining stability and addressing potential risks during the change in administration.
- Preparation for Substantive Appointments: Providing the groundwork for the appointment of a permanent National Security leadership team.
