President Mahama Addresses Bawku Security Crisis, Pledges Swift Action and Dialogue

President Mahama pledges swift security appointments and dialogue to restore lasting peace in conflict-hit Bawku.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to resolving the escalating security crisis in Bawku during his visit to the Bawku Naba. As his first official trip outside Accra since his inauguration, the visit underscores the President’s prioritization of peace and security in conflict-affected regions.

Key Appointments to Strengthen Security

President Mahama announced that critical security appointments will be made this week to address the situation in Bawku comprehensively. These appointments include:

  • Minister of Defence
  • Minister of Interior
  • National Security Adviser
  • National Security Coordinator
  • Director of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI)

He emphasized that these officials will be directed to make Bawku a top priority, ensuring a focused and coordinated approach to restoring peace.

Call for Patience and Assurance of Action

Addressing the people of Bawku, the President appealed for patience and restraint, assuring them of his full awareness of the challenges they face. He promised that his administration would work diligently to bring lasting peace to the area, stating:

“Exercise patience, exercise restraint, and let me assure you that I am apprised of the issue. I’m going to deal with it… By the grace of God, peace is going to come back permanently.”
